Professor of Family and Community Health, University of Minnesota

Barbara P. Yawn, MD, MSc, FAAFP, is a family medicine physician and clinical researcher with more than a decade of experience practicing in the rural primary care setting. She is also Professor of Family and Community Health at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Dr. Yawn started her career in rural Minnesota, providing maternity and lifelong care after birth. She began conducting research while in rural practice to address the lack of research conducted within and relevant to primary care. Today, having spent more than 25 years as a clinical researcher, Dr. Yawn has contributed to over 400 publications, 3 books, and many book chapters. She has presented her findings and primary care–focused education all over the world.

“My respect and interests lie in supporting care for people who choose to live in rural areas of the United States and around the world,” said Dr. Yawn. “I am always impressed by the dedication and extra effort rural medicine and healthcare require,” she added.
