Wade T. Swenson MD, MPH

Medical Director, Lakewood Health System

Wade T. Swenson, MD, MPH, is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of North Dakota and Medical Director of Lakewood Health System in Staples, Minnesota.

Dr. Swenson received his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and earned his master’s in public health degree from the University of Iowa College of Public Health. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine followed by a fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

As a medical oncologist and hematologist, Dr. Swenson focuses on delivering cancer care to underserved rural areas. At his clinical practice, he provides direct patient care and leads a team dedicated to identifying solutions to closing the rural cancer gap. He is also active in healthcare leadership, serving as Secretary of the Minnesota Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE MN), on a quality steering committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and on the policy committee of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Oncology (MSCO). He is a Presidential Leadership Scholar (PLS) and a National Rural Health Association (NRHA) Rural Health Fellow.

Dr. Swenson founded the Rural Cancer Institute, a non-profit organization that aims to increase awareness and address disparities in rural cancer care delivery.
