Stephen P. Raffanti, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Medicine and Associate Director for HIV Clinical Services in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, as well as the Founder and former Medical Director of Vanderbilt Comprehensive Care Clinic in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Raffanti received his medical degree from the University of Genoa in Genoa, Italy, did his residency in internal medicine followed by a chief residency at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, then completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. Afterward, he obtained his Master of Public Health degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Raffanti has dedicated his career to the study of HIV and the care of persons living with the disease. He has served on many national committees and advisory groups and has been honored with multiple awards, including the 2005 Infectious Diseases Society of America Clinician Educator of the Year award.
Dr. Raffanti has delivered numerous talks on HIV and infectious diseases locally, nationally, and internationally. He has also authored or contributed to a multitude of publications on these topics, including peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, books, and commentaries. In addition to his clinical practice and teaching, Dr. Raffanti is engaged in ongoing research related to HIV. Most recently, he served as the principal investigator for several Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program research grants at Vanderbilt University.
