Nina N. Grenon, DNP, AOCN, is a nurse practitioner at the Center for Gastrointestinal Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her master of science in nursing degree and doctor of nursing practice degree from Simmons University, also located in Boston.
Dr. Grenon has cared for patients with gastrointestinal cancers for the past 27 years. She is currently working on developing pathways for symptom management among patients with cancer. She has also worked with a group of international nurses to develop the GUIDE communication framework, a tool to assist nurses in having better conversations with patients with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Her research interests include patient and caretaker education, communication, quality improvement, symptom management in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) and pancreatic cancer, and survivorship care of patients with CRC. Her work has focused on interventions delivered by front-line nurses and early integration of palliative care in patients with advanced gastrointestinal malignancies, specifically pancreatic cancer and CRC.
Dr. Grenon's work has been published in the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing and other peer-reviewed journals on the care of patients with gastrointestinal malignancies and implications for nursing. She has developed numerous educational programs locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally for oncology nurses focused on patients with colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and other gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Grenon is also the recipient of several awards, including the 2021 President’s Award for Nursing Excellence at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
