Yelena Y. Janjigian, MD, is Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and Chief of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York, New York.

Dr. Janjigian received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. She then completed a residency in internal medicine at New York School of Medicine/Bellevue Hospital and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at MSKCC.

Dr. Janjigian is at the forefront of research and clinical practice aimed at improving treatment outcomes for patients with gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, reflecting her standing as a leading figure in translational research. Additionally, she serves on the Board of Directors and chairs the Steering Committee for Giants of Cancer Care. Dr. Janjigian also serves on committees at the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association of Cancer Research, where she contributes her expertise to shaping the future of cancer treatment and research.

To date, she has published over 140 papers in esteemed journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, The Lancet Oncology, The Lancet, and Nature. Her research endeavors, funded by entities such as the National Institutes of Health and Stand Up To Cancer, have led to significant advancements in understanding of the genomic basis of esophagogastric cancer pathogenesis. Dr. Janjigian's studies have not only elucidated critical molecular characteristics of GI tumors but have also spearheaded the development of novel treatment modalities, setting new standards of care in the field.
